My tub has been plugged and when the water drains it leaves a nasty soap like film what is it?

Its greyish in color, really slick, and slimy, it almost looks like soap. It takes at least 30 minutes or more for my tub 2 drain even after just a shower. Tried liquid plumber, and boiling hot water but this plumber guy that came before put this weird metal drain plug in it and its hard 2 get anything out that could be in the drain. Any idea what the slime stuff is and how 2 get my drain unplugged?

Sounds like hard water scum – if the water fails to run away its probably a load of hair and gunge in the U trap. Your plumber tried the easy option but there is no substitute for a dismantle and clean.

I would try to put some baking soda down the drain (not a lot) maybe a tablespoon and then pour some vinegar down the drain should clear up anything down there. I have used this a lot and it unclogs drains quick! Works great, hope this helps!

There is 2- things u need to do to take care of this problem. U need to get a hand crank snake cleaner 1/4 snake would do ($20). Than remove that tub screen to allow better flow to the drain. The screen put too restriction on the flow. The ring u see in the tub is soap scum. U open the vent (2 screws u see ) under ur spout. Run the snake down and remove any hair in there. Now, ur tub should drain very good now…

The slime stuff is soap and body oil residue. You had a plumber out and its still doing the slow drain, thats weird. Try using two plungers, one over the drain and pump it and the other over the lever spot where water drains out if the water get too high. This worked for me! GoodLuck!

    1) you need to snake the drain immediately.

    2) the grey slime is residual from the acid poured into the tub which failed to work. it has become diluted and is laying in your tub.

now you see why I never promote drain cleaners unless the drain actually moves slightly.

the plumber that came out doesn’t sound qualified. i seriously don’t think he was a licensed plumber or he would NOT have left the tub in that condition.

you probably still have hair and debris either in the drain or on your drain mechanism.
