Hi I wonder if anyone can help – both my dishwasher and washing machine won’t drain – any ideas?
This has happened within two days of each other so am fairly convinced a problem with my filters/drains?? But not sure where to start.

Blocked pipes!!! I had the same thing about two to three weeks ago. Clean filters….open pipe if you can and get the muck out…otherwise call a plumber at £75. per hour!!!

I dunno about washing machine but my dishwasher – this happened loads of time… just take everything out and at the bottom there is a filter thing.. take that out and get your hand in there.. it might be clogged up with food.. I put a pan full of goose fat in there and it was a nightmare – it had solidified in the filter (How stupid am I ?_) – my partner had a fit when he realised what I`d done! But got it sorted… good luck! Ya might have to get a man in!!!

Obviously the drain is blocked, you could start by pouring some seriously stong drain unblocker down there, and if that doesn’t help, you might have to rod them. If its still blocked after that then you will have to get a plumber, but since its not too complicated a job to unblock a drain you might be able to get an apprentice or trainee to do it at a cheaper price than a fully qualified plumber (ie someone who has done their vocational qualifications but not time served plumber).

your best bet is to get a plumber to see if the pipe’s are blocked with goo.turn your water of and check your pipes to both machine’s.

you have a clogged pipe so try a plunger or check for a slow drain by filling up the sink with a stopper in and then pull the stopper and see if it goes down slow or fast. If you live in a flat call the owner.

clean your filters, they are more than likely clogged
